Our Approach

Dance. Film. Place. People.

Place matters. We select unique towns across the globe and curate a boutique, locally-rooted experience for you to make a film you would never make at home.

Supported production experience.

The experience is built for the filmmaker. Come with your idea and allow the selected artists in residence to support, inspire, guide and collaborate in the creation of your short film.

International cohort of artists.

Films that Move is "glocal". We dive into local culture and place with an international cohort of artists working across multiple disciplines to create a rich, engaging and inspiring vibe.

High production value.

You are in good hands with our team who have the equipment, knowledge and skills to compliment your area of  expertise in the realization of a highly professional and polished product produced in a condensed timeframe.

Testimonials

Films that Move is the artistic experiment that every artist dreams of being a part of. Artists of completely different disciplines and backgrounds come together for two weeks with the shared and soul interest of collaborating to make as many films as humanly possible. It's a marathon of creation with no distraction; you can completely immerse yourself in the experience. The connections I made with other artists are ones that continue to last and learned experiences are ones that continue to support me in my professional career.

"Films that Move is a wonderfully collaborative residency that is a whirlwind of creation and execution.   There is a beautiful sense of presence that is necessary to exist in a setting where extremely talented individuals are brought together with a short deadline and a project to complete.   Something about that formula brings about the necessity of engagement in a way that forges immediate connections, confident decisions and brilliantly unexpected outcomes."

After years of working in the film industry as a cinematographer, Films that Move brought me back to the joy of filmmaking and revealed the absolute necessity to experiment with community for the sake of making cool and meaningful art. The ingredients are all there from the insane talent pool of dancers, choreographers, composers to the physical beauty and friendliness of Cape Charles and the folks who live there. The result of seeing so many projects develop and come to life in such a compressed period of time is invaluable. So are the connections and insights that are available to all that decide to join in the dance.
